homework

My poor boy! Since the first day of school, Matthew has been loaded down with homework. I'm all for homework but 3-5 hours of it! He worked on homework the other day from 4: to 9:30. He looked like he went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson! Now, I have been out of school for almost 20 years (Yes I'm getting old) and some of the stuff he brings home I don't even remember doing at his age. Maybe I should have paid more attention in school. I can already see that he may end up like me. I stuggled in school the whole time I was in and I don't want him to go through that. It's so hard to see your child struggle:(

School now is completely different than it was when you, and even I was in school. They have set the standards higher, and it is ridiculous. Combine that with classes with 25-30 kids in it, with a few kids in it that may be struggling, and how is the teacher supposed to be able to take the time to help these kids? 3-5 hours of homework at his age and grade is absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for. This is a big reason I decided to homeschool. These schools raise expectation levels, but the teachers don't have the time to devote to the children to help them reach those goals.
